The McCormick Riverfront Library is significant for its presence in a high-need community. The Library stands in the heart of Pennsylvania’s capital, home to just under 50,000 residents and is steeped in government, history,
culture, and academia.
Since its founding more than a century ago, The Library has always been a place to belong. Today, it remains a trusted institution that welcomes everyone. The Library inspires dreams, improves lives, creates connections and opens minds.
In fact, The Library is more vital to our community than ever before. Rapidly evolving civic, educational, technological, wellness and workforce needs demand relevant library services. Utilization of computers and online/onsite resources continues to grow. From learning to read, researching for a job or finding sanctuary, The Library belongs to everyone.
In a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, The Library recently acquired one of the most historic properties in the City of Harrisburg. The Haldeman Haly House was built by the architect of the original state Capitol and was the residence of a governor. It is adjacent to the iconic McCormick Riverfront Library at Front and Walnut streets.
